How Did The Awards Impact Oscar Betting Markets?

“One Battle After Another” was already the bettors’ favorite to win Best Picture at the Oscars on both Polymarket and Kalshi, and its strong performance on Sunday night boosted its odds further. On Polymarket, bookmakers predict the Leonardo DiCaprio-led film has an 81% chance of winning the Academy Award—up by 4 points in the past 24 hours—while it has even better odds of 83% on Kalshi, rising by 5 points on Sunday. Odds of “Hamnet” overtook “Marty Supreme” after the awards on both markets, but it remains a distant second, with bettors on Kalshi and Polymarket giving it only an 8% chance of winning. The bettors’ favorite for Best Actor and Best Actress winners, Timothy Chalamet and Jessie Buckley, also scored wins on Sunday night, slightly improving their odds. Chalamet has pulled away from his rivals, including Leonardo DiCaprio, over the past few weeks and his odds rose by a further 12 points on Polymarket to 76% on Sunday.

Tangent

Sunday night’s ceremony was silent on major political issues, Glaser’s opening monologues did feature a few jabs at the Trump administration and broadcaster CBS—which was carrying the ceremony live. She began her monologue welcoming people to the awards and joking, “Yes, the Golden Globes — without a doubt the most important thing that’s happening at in the world right now.” Glaser referenced the Epstein files issue, saying: “There are so many A-Listers, and by A-listers, I do mean people who were on A LIST that’s been heavily redacted, but- yes. And the Golden Globe for best editing goes to … the Justice Department.” The comedian then said: “And the award for most editing goes to CBS News — yes. CBS News: America’s newest place to see BS News. We needed another.”
