Breguet has added two new Type XX chronographs to its collection, each paying tribute to the brand’s 250th anniversary and a legacy tied to aviation.

The new Type XX Chronographe 2075 models – one with a black dial and the other in solid silver – draw from a civilian model Breguet introduced in 1955.

Both watches keep the 38.3mm case size of the original, made from Breguet’s proprietary gold alloy and topped with a slim, bi-directional rotating bezel. The black-dial version uses anodised aluminium for the dial, with a small “Al” marking between seven and eight o’clock. The silver-dial model features a vertically brushed finish and a subtle “Ag925” mark in the same spot.

The black dial watch has a 15-minute counter at three o’clock and a small seconds subdial at nine. The silver version, which is limited to 250 pieces, switches to a 30-minute counter and adds a tachymeter scale around the edge of the dial. Both dials have applied Arabic numerals and markers in Breguet gold, along with the applied Breguet name.

Inside each watch is a hand-wound movement based on Breguet’s calibre 728, introduced in 2023. The black-dial model runs on the calibre 7279, while the silver-dial version uses the calibre 7278. Both beat at 5Hz and have a 60-hour power reserve. The movement is visible through a sapphire caseback engraved with “BREGUET 250 YEARS.”

The engraving on the caseback shows the 1930 flight from Paris to New York by a Breguet 19 aircraft, a link to the aviation history behind the Type XX line. The original 1955 model was made for civilian pilots and followed Breguet’s earlier work creating military chronographs for the French Air Force and Naval Aviation.

The two new models come on gradient leather straps – black for the black dial, blue for the silver – equipped with an interchangeable system. They’re water resistant to 50 metres and come in red leather boxes inspired by Breguet’s historic Moroccan leather cases.

The black-dial Type XX 2075 is priced at AUD $66,500, while the silver-dial limited edition sells for AUD $69,200. Australian retailers will begin offering them later this year.

For those who value functional watches over flash, the Type XX 2075 sticks to the essentials.

The flyback chronograph feature, which has been part of the Type XX line since the 1950s, resets the chronograph hand and starts it again in a single push. It’s a detail originally requested by aviation authorities and still useful for pilots and watch enthusiasts today.
