In 2022, millions of Australians had their data accessed by hackers via two major cyber-attacks: Optus in September and Medibank in October. The havoc continued when 14 million personal customer records were stolen from Latitude Financial. Since then, the Australian government has announced changes to beef up Australia’s cyber security.

The quoteabove was the apology issued by hackers who tapped into telco company Optus’ security systems and stole the records of millions of current and former customers back in September 2022 (in fact, just 10,200 customers’ details were exposed online). That data sometimes included driver’s licences, passports and Medicare details.
