Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are moving back to the United Kingdom, according to multiple reports, returning to Britain six years after their royal exit and move to the U.S.

Key Facts
The couple are planning to move back to the U.K. this year, The Telegraph reported, noting their children have been enrolled for school in Britain.
The move does not mean Prince Harry or Meghan will resume their roles as working royals, according to the BBC, positions they stepped away from in 2020 over a desire for familial privacy as Meghan faced intense tabloid scrutiny.
King Charles was unaware of the couple’s plan to move before last weekend, the BBC added, reporting Prince Harry and Megan’s relationship with the royal family has been strained since they moved to the U.S. and that a recent visit with the king was a “key development in their relationship.”
Prince Harry and Meghan have lived in California since moving to the U.S., residing in the affluent suburb of Montecito in Santa Barbara County.
Surprising Fact
Prince Harry and Meghan’s visit to the U.K. this summer was their first time in the country together since 2022, when Queen Elizabeth II died. Prince Harry publicly acknowledged safety concerns were a large reason behind his absence, as last year he lost a legal challenge in which he sought a higher security level for his family while in the U.K.
Big Number
$14.8 million. That is how much Prince Harry and Meghan paid for their home in 2020, according to Harper’s Bazaar.
Key Background
Prince Harry and the royal family reportedly fell out over media intrusion, familial divides and racism within the U.K.’s political institutions. His level of security in the U.K. was downgraded in 2020 after he stepped down from royal duties. After stepping away from the royal family and the pay that came with it, Prince Harry and Meghan made money through a mix of media, entertainment, publishing and speaking engagements to supplement Prince Harry’s inheritance and residuals from Meghan’s acting career.
