The car importer and serial waterfront collector is selling his Lady Martins Beach home to make way for a $50 million penthouse.
Neville Crichton has never been sentimental about waterfront property, even when the man over the fence is former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull.
The ultra-welathy car importer and yachtsman has traded Point Piper waterfronts before, and now another is on the market. His three-storey home on Lady Martins Beach, Deauville, carries a guide of $85 million to $90 million.
The Longworth Avenue home sits directly on the sand, in a north-facing pocket of Point Piper that rarely trades. Crichton, 81, is in line for a handsome return on the property after paying $39 million for the home in 2017, the same year he sold his former Point Piper waterfront on Wingadal Place for $60.66 million.
In May he bought again, paying around $50 million for a penthouse atop developer Fortis’ Ruby House.
The home he is leaving has been substantially reworked, according to Forbes Global Properties. So, what does $90 million of Sydney waterfront real estate get you in 2026?
A three-storey house on Lady Martins Beach for a start. It’s one of the few north-facing blocks left in Point Piper and has more than 1,000 square metres under roof, reworked by Blainey North around the geometry of Palladio’s Villa La Rotonda.
The northern aspect draws light through the interiors and frames the harbour from nearly every room. Three bedroom suites occupy the upper floor. The principal suite has a dressing room, two ensuites and a view north across the water.
The lower level is given over to leisure, with a harbourfront lounge, bar, cinema and gymnasium behind floor-to-ceiling glass that opens onto a waterfront terrace.
What marks Deauville as a yachtsman’s home sits below the living areas. A 108 square metre boatshed and workshop opens directly onto Lady Martins Beach, purpose-built for a nine-metre RIB and a Sealegs amphibious vessel and fitted with a 12-tonne winch.
