Revealed: Airbnb’s top 2024 travel destinations

Online accommodation marketplace Airbnb has revealed where app-users are searching for their next holiday destinations.

As 2023 comes to a close, Airbnb has revealed the emerging destinations that holiday-goers are looking up on its app. In a blog post, the company said 2024 will be a “year of globetrotting”.

Of course, the Paris Olympics is top of mind for Airbnb vacationers, with searches for Paris between July 26 and August 11 2024 increasing 7x compared to the same period this year. Brazil’s Carnival festival is also attracting app users, with Brazil experiencing a 136% increase in searches for the Carnival weekend.

Here are the other destinations on Airbnb’s list, based on worldwide searches from January to September 30 for travel during the 2024 calendar year:

  • Indianapolis, Indiana
  • Warsaw, Poland
  • Osaka, Japan
  • Kyoto, Japan
  • Buenos Aires, Argentina
  • Marrakesh, Morocco
  • Salvador, Brazil
  • Paris, France
  • Düsseldorf, Germany
  • Puerto del Carmen, Canary Islands, Spain
  • Melbourne, Australia
  • Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • Lille, France
  • Stockholm, Sweden
  • Tokyo, Japan
  • Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  • Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy
  • Milan, Italy
  • Rome, Italy
  • Maceió, Brazil
  • Dallas, Texas
  • Mexico City, Mexico
  • Colorado Springs, United States
  • Nassau, The Bahamas

In terms of countries with the highest increase in search volume, Japan tops the list with a 3x increase in search for Q1-Q3 2024 compared to the same time period the previous year, followed by Taiwan and Albania. Other destinations with the highest search increase on Airbnb include:

  • Singapore
  • Finland
  • Curaçao 
  • Aruba 
  • Thailand 
  • Guatemala

Airbnb dropped the list after it launched its Guest Favourites feature, which allows users to search the 2 million most-loved homes on the platform. These ‘favourites’ are rated above 4.9 stars on average, and receive high marks for ease of check-in, cleanliness, listing accuracy, host communication, location, and value.
