After a post-race protest and penalty overturned the initial result, double-handed yacht Min River was declared the overall winner of the Tattersalls Cup at the 2025 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, while Master Lock Comanche claimed Line Honours.

Master Lock Comanche may have beaten reigning champion LawConnect for Line Honours in the 2025 Rolex Sydney Hobart yacht race, but it was the Tattersalls Cup award that caused the most controversy.

At issue was whether BNC – my::NET / LEON vessel, which was originally crowned the overall winner, had broken rule 55.3, during the last 2 nautical miles of the race.

The International Jury found that rule 55.3 – which bans a sheet from forming a vertical line outside the hull or deck – was broken, but it was not done intentionally.

Consequently, the crew of BNC – my::NET / LEON was given a 1 hour 5 minute penalty, and runner up Min River was declared the Tattersalls Cup winner.

The yacht’s owner, Jiang Lin, is the first woman to win the race. Additionally, Lin and her co-skipper Alexis Loison are the first double handed crew to win the Tattersalls trophy.

“It hasn’t sunk in yet. Maybe I wake up and say, ‘oh that was a dream,’” 60 year old Lin said in Hobart, after the win was decided.

“I did not have hopes of winning. You think about all the 100-something boats, all the big boats and superb sailors out there. Not in my wildest dreams did I think this would come true for me.”
